Holley Sniper digital dash: what it shows and how to set it up
Sniper EFI turned a lot of carbureted cars and trucks into fuel injection, and a Pro Dash is a natural next step. It works great with a Sniper, with one catch worth knowing before you plan your gauges.
Does the Pro Dash work with Sniper EFI?
Yes. The Pro Dash supports the original Sniper EFI and Sniper 2. It recognizes the Sniper when you connect it and offers to load screens made for it. If your dash doesn't recognize a Sniper 2, update the dash to Holley's latest firmware first, since Sniper 2 support was added in an update.
What a Sniper can show
The Sniper shares the basics, which covers what most street cars and trucks want to watch:
- Engine RPM
- Coolant and air temperature
- Air/fuel ratio and target air/fuel
- Throttle position and ignition timing
- Manifold pressure and boost
- Battery voltage
The catch: oil pressure, fuel pressure and fuel level
A Sniper doesn't read oil pressure or fuel pressure, and nothing reads your fuel level unless you wire it in. If you want those gauges, and you should at least want oil pressure, wire a sensor to one of the Pro Dash's own inputs. The dash then shows it like any other reading.
In Gauge Garage, add the gauge and pick Custom channel for anything wired to the dash. You can also set that gauge's input on the dash after you load the layout.
Layout ideas for Sniper builds
- Classic trucks: brushed aluminum, a big speedometer and a square of small gauges. See the C10 and square body layouts.
- Muscle cars: white classic faces with a big tach. See Chevelle and Camaro.
- Keep it simple: if a gauge has no sensor behind it, leave it off. An empty gauge on the dash just looks broken.
