How to install a custom layout on a Holley Pro Dash

About 10 minutes. You need your layout from the designer, a USB stick, and the dash turned on. The engine doesn't need to be running.

Before you start

  • Back up your dash. On the dash, go to Utilities then Backup Configuration, and save it to the USB stick. If you don't like the new layout, Restore Configuration puts everything back.
  • Use the right USB stick. The one that came with the dash works best. Any other stick needs to be formatted as FAT32. On a Mac, use Disk Utility, choose Erase, and pick MS-DOS (FAT). On Windows, right-click the stick, choose Format, and pick FAT32.
  • Turn off screen lock if you set a password on the dash.

1. Download your layout

In the designer, click Export for dash. You'll get a zip file with your layout, a background picture, a preview and these instructions. Unzip it.

2. Copy both files to the USB stick

Copy the layout file (it ends in .ini) and the picture (it ends in .jpg) to the top level of the USB stick, not inside a folder. Don't rename them. The layout finds its picture by name.

3. Load the layout on the dash

  1. Plug the USB stick into the dash's USB cable.
  2. Swipe to the screen you want to replace, touch it, and choose Customize.
  3. Touch an empty spot, then choose Layout and Clear.
  4. Choose Layout and Import. Under Device, pick USB, choose your layout, and press Import.
  5. Touch an empty spot and choose Save.

4. If the background didn't show up

Touch the screen, choose Background and Change, pick USB, select the picture, press OK, then Save. The dash keeps its own copy, so you can pull the USB stick out afterward.

Troubleshooting

The dash only shows "Internal", not USB

The dash hasn't picked up the USB stick. It's not a problem with your layout.

  1. Unplug the stick, wait 5 seconds, plug it back in, wait about 10 seconds, then open Import again.
  2. Make sure it's plugged into the Pro Dash's own USB cable, not a charging port somewhere else in the car.
  3. Try a different USB stick formatted as FAT32. Smaller, older sticks tend to work best.
  4. Turn the key off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on with the stick plugged in.

The dash asks to update its software

That happens when a Holley update file is on the stick. Say no unless you meant to update, or move the update files into a folder on the stick.

A gauge shows the wrong reading or nothing at all

Check what that gauge is set to show in the designer. Some readings only exist on certain Holley systems, and sensors you wired to the dash yourself, like fuel level, need to be picked on the dash or entered as a custom channel.

The needles look a little different from the preview

The dash draws its own needles, bar graphs, warning lights and live numbers. The preview in the designer is close, not exact.

Updating your dash's software

Holley releases updates for the Pro Dash from time to time. To update, download the update from Holley, unzip it onto the USB stick, plug it into the dash, and choose Update Firmware from the dash's configuration menu. Read Holley's instructions that come with the update first, and back up your dash before you start.
